Egypt Nile Cruises

The Nile between Luxor and Aswan is one of the oldest traveled routes in the world. The temples along its banks were built over two thousand years, facing the water intentionally. The route has not changed.

The Nile Route

A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan covers roughly 220 kilometers of river, passing through a landscape that has changed very little in centuries. The temples along the route were positioned to be seen from the water. Karnak and Luxor Temple mark the starting point on the east bank. Edfu holds one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, dedicated to Horus, built during the Ptolemaic period on much older foundations. Kom Ombo sits directly on the riverbank, a double temple shared between Sobek and Horus. Philae, relocated to an island in the Aswan reservoir after the High Dam was built, is reached by motorboat. An optional extension goes to Abu Simbel, 300 kilometers further south into Nubia. The pace of a cruise is slower than land travel, and that is part of what it offers.
