Two Days in the Faiyum Desert
The Faiyum Overnight Desert Adventure covers the same ground as the day tour: Tunis Village pottery, Wadi El Rayan waterfalls, and the whale fossil beds of Wadi El Hitan. The difference is the evening. Instead of returning to Cairo after Wadi El Hitan, the group sets up camp in the desert for a Bedouin dinner by the fire and a night under open sky. Day two is deliberately slow: sunrise over the dunes, a light breakfast, and a midday return.
This route suits travelers who want more time in Faiyum than a same-day return allows, prefer a calmer pace, and do not need a larger desert expedition to feel the landscape. Browse our full programs, or use Craft Your Journey to build this into a longer Egypt itinerary.

What to Expect
The drive from Cairo to Faiyum takes approximately 90 minutes each way. Day one is full: pottery in the morning, the two desert sites in the afternoon, and camp setup by early evening. The Bedouin dinner is served by the campfire after dark. Temperatures drop significantly after sunset, even in warmer months, so evening layers are not optional.
The camp is basic by design: tents and sleeping bags are provided, but this is desert camping, not a resort. Light sleepers should bring earplugs. The terrain at Wadi El Rayan and Wadi El Hitan involves walking on uneven and sandy ground. Sun exposure is high at both sites during the day.
Day two is deliberately quiet. There is no fixed schedule after breakfast, just time before the midday return drive. The group is limited to 10 people, which keeps both the campsites and the morning drive manageable.
