Meroe

Your Nile adventure begins in Esna, situated about 33 miles south of Luxor. Here, you'll step aboard the Meroe Dahabiya and become acquainted with the dedicated crew. Esna is renowned for its lively atmosphere and the Temple of Khnum, which sits well below the city’s current streets. Enjoy a short walk to this fascinating site, followed by time to wander the colorful local markets offering textiles and unique crafts. You’ll spend your first night peacefully moored along the riverbank.

The cruise continues to El Kab, a once-important capital of Upper Egypt, where you’ll discover the Temple of Nekhbet and ancient tombs carved into the rocky hillside. A guided walk through a traditional fishing village leads you to these remnants of Egypt’s past.

Later, the trip brings you to Edfu. Here, a horse-drawn carriage will take you through the lively town to visit the impressive Temple of Horus, known for its remarkable preservation. Afterward, the boat sets sail for a quiet island, offering a serene place to anchor for the night.

Spend a leisurely day gliding along the Nile, soaking up the scenery from the sun deck. A relaxed breakfast follows an optional stroll ashore. Soon, the dahabiya anchors at a secluded island, inviting you to swim or simply enjoy nature at your own pace.

As evening falls, visit a nearby desert valley where boulders are inscribed with ancient hieroglyphs and prehistoric artwork—the historic start of the desert route to Libya. The night concludes moored beside the softly lit Gebel Silsileh Temple, creating a memorable riverside setting.

Wake up at the narrowest section of the Nile, framed by imposing mountains. Tour the rarely-visited Temple of Horemheb and discover the vast sandstone quarries that provided stone for many of Egypt’s famous temples.

After exploring, the dahabiya sails south to a beautiful riverbank for lunch and a chance to unwind or swim, surrounded by natural beauty.

The trip brings you to Kom Ombo, set on a scenic bend of the Nile. Visit the unusual double temple dedicated to Sobek and Haroeris, then explore the Crocodile Museum, which displays an intriguing collection of mummified crocodiles and artifacts. In the afternoon, sail onward toward Aswan and enjoy your final night on deck beneath the stars.

As the Meroe Dahabiya arrives in Aswan, admire the dramatic desert scenery along the riverbanks. After breakfast, it’s time to disembark and transfer to your chosen location in Aswan to continue your travels.
